My Approach to Care

Welcome, my name is Alysha Fischer! I am a Licensed Social Worker here at New Care Behavioral Health, serving adults (18+) in the Lorain and Medina County areas. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Addictions Counseling at Kent State University as well as my Master of Social Work degree with a certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy at the University of Akron.

My primary areas of focus include trauma, substance abuse and addiction, navigating legal issues, grief, relationship issues, managing daily life stressors, improving communication skills, and working with my clients to develop balance in all areas of life. My treatment modalities include a combination of Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and Solutions Focused Therapy (SFT). My personal approach as a therapist always begins with awareness – I believe awareness of a problem is the first step in solving it. I believe in the power of knowledge, the more we have, the more we can do with it, and the more our lives can change because of it. I provide psychoeducation to each of my client to help them understand the foundational pieces of neuroscience and psychology, helping to explain the “why” behind our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. The better my clients understand their physiological experiences, the more skills they can develop to be aware of and manage symptoms of their mental health as they arise.

My overall goal as a therapist is for my clients to leave me feeling better than they came, with the confidence to move forward as the best version of themselves through learning valuable life skills, self-awareness, and tools to manage all that life throws their way. It’s a pleasure to be part of each and every one of my clients’ healing journeys and I look forward to starting yours!
